BLOG POST 7: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAM
Hi everyone!
Today I'm going to talk about what changes I could do with the study programme of my career. Well, as you know, I'm studying journalism at Universidad de Chile. Due to the pandemic, I didn't live my first academic year, but I've noticed that this university is very concerned about the theoretical side. If I had to change something about the curriculum, probably would going to be this aspect. In my opinion, Journalism as a career needs a lot of practice, so if we want to be good professionals in the future, practice is the key. I would prioritize subjects like Journalistic Investigation, Radio, and Corporal Expression.
I think that workload and length of studies are normal. We have to consider that this profession has an impact on democracy. Consequently, the levels of study demand have to be adequate. This career maintains you on alert all days because the news keeps on coming.
About the infrastructure of my Faculty, I can say that is ok. ICEI (the name of it) is a little bit small, but that makes it easier to know where are the classrooms. Also, at the entry of ICEI, we have a pair of beautiful trees in front of our student federation. I really wouldn't change anything about the building.
In Journalism, we use a lot of technology to do our job. For example, I can't imagine us back in the old days when journalists wrote all their notes on paper. Computers, microphones, and headphones are essential tools to my career because we work with communication and mass media. Probably, I would send more budget to universities to purchase this equipment.
Finally, about the teaching methods, I wouldn't change anything. I think that the freedom of teaching it's an important part of universities, and we have to defend it at all costs.
You are right Eric, it is important to reinforce courses on corporal expression, radio and among others since our career is based on performing well in each environment and with the pandemic that has limited us a lot.
ResponderEliminarHi Eric. I did not think about the practice aspects in our career. I believe that is so necessary have more courses of that because is a very important part to develop like a journalist.
ResponderEliminarHi Eric! I agree that the theoretical part has a lot of space covered and that they should give more space to the practical, especially in this context of pandemic.
ResponderEliminarHi Eric! Corporal Expression should, at least, be an elective course!!! I find you very right in what you say :)
ResponderEliminarI also agree that they should pay more attention to practical courses!
